My fathers legionella, day by day

He is a normal, 72 years old man, smoked since his twenties. He is now retired from his work in a fish farm, spends his days fishing in the Sognefjord, Western Norway.

Date Day CRP Comment
Nov 13  1 ? Came home from  Madeira, Funchal, Ajuda Star, feeling slightly bad, a flu? Muscle and joint pains. (Satelitepicture)
Nov 15 3 ? To the  municipal health centre in Gulen, Eivindvik. The physichan diagnosed it as a pneumonia. (Map)
Nov 16 4
My mother wanted him in hospital because he did neither eat nor drink. The physichan, however, claimed that a pneumonia could not end this fast. But if he does not drink, then she could call again.
Nov 17 5 ? Since drinking was important he started to drink water. My mother and my brother discussed him, they decided he was not any worse than yesterday.
Nov 18 6 465 Still high fever; 39.7, a little confused. My mother called the physichan 6:30 in the morning and insisted on hospitalization. The ambulance came and they made the 8 o'clock ferry… In the  hospital (map) my mother mentioned legionella, they had just been on vacation on Madeiara and she sadly was right.
Nov 19 7 ? He is put on mechanical ventilation in the first hours of the day.
Nov 20 8 360 Helicopter to Bergen, Haukeland Universitetssykehus. Bad blood pressure, he gained over 20 kg due to infusion to keep blood pressure up, kidney failure and lung failure. Straight into intensive care. One reason to move him to Bergen is the dialysis apparatus here.
Nov 21 9 290 Oscillatorhis lungs just barely works. Normal mechanical ventilation is not enough.

Nov 28 16 31 Ordinary mechanic ventilation

Nov 30 18 68 Rash on his back, opened his eyes a moment. Tracheotomy.
Dec 1 19 105 Mechanical ventilation in «servomode». Yeastinfection? Opened his eyes.
Dec 2 20 136 Pneumonia or rash on back causing high CRP? My brother thought he got contact. Turning his head, but not moving his arms.

Dec 4 22 117 Decreasing CRP, moved his toes.

Dec7 25
More awake, stable blood pressure, CT.
Dec 8 26 34 Even more awake, breathing without the machine a while. CT showed a small haemorrhage in thalamus. EEG «optimistic», will soon come awake.

Dec16 34 29 Moving his eyes even faster
Dec 17 35 A little worse today. The rash has caused him to replace all his skin, his hands are now like mine, soft like a baby (I'm a programmer ...)
Dec 18 36 21 Got youghurt through his mouth.
Dec 19 37 - New room, youghurt, a little more alert.
Dec 20 38 - MR.
Dec 21 39 - MR-pictures blurred, he moved.
Dec 22 40 88 A lot of phlegm in his lungs, it is decided he shall return to Førde on Dec 28. A little better. The kidneys is starting to work again.
Dec 23 41 - He has been rolled around the hospital area i a wheelchair.
Dec 24 42 - "Ran away" from the  Rune Larsen concert in the hospital lobby, opened presents almost by himself.
Dec 25 43 - Trying to talk, to communicate, but no air through the vocal cords due to the trachestomy. More awake than ever since he came to Bergen.
Dec 26 44 - Moving his legs. A lot of phlegm is removed every day. Sometimes large coagulated bood lumps are sucked up.
Dec 27 45 - A lot of visits (has been all the time), while I was there the nurse removed the air from the balloon cuff and blocking the tube to let him talk. After he said "yes" when the nurse asked him to, he said "It's enough now" when he chosed his own words.
Dec 28 46 - To Førde, trachestomy removed when he arrived.
